Damp Wood Termites

These groups of termites feed on decayed wood such as old tree stumps, rotting logs and pieces of buried timber. Once established, they can move into sound wood structures in buildings.

Dry Wood Termites

Colonies are normally found in dry wood, very often in the structural timber of buildings. They are less dependent on sources of moisture and need no access to the soil.

They build nests in the soil and are very dependent on soil for moisture. In their search for food, subterranean termites construct mud tubes because they are susceptible to desiccation when exposed to air.
