Appearance

  • 10 - 15 mm long.
  • Yellow-brown in colour.
  • Both sexes have wings but those of the male are longer.
  • Runs (may fly at very high temperatures).

Lifecycle

  • Females deposit the ootheca (egg case) containing 16 eggs a day after production.
  • Ootheca are cemented down and widely scattered.
  • Hatch in 1 – 2 months.
  • Nymphs take 2 – 4 months to develop into adults.

Habits

  • Heated buildings; very wide dispersal throughout.
  • Nocturnal.
  • Omnivorous.
